An exhibition about the reactivation of the Romanian architectural heritage
24 September – 17 October 2012, Assembly Hall of Carol I University Central Library of Bucharest.
This exhibition was based on a selection of 20 contemporary interventions to listed buildings. We have not chosen restorations of huge value monuments (where the interventions should be invisible anyway), but operations that breathed new life into old, fragile sites. Respectful repairs, but also infusions of new functions, strategies, community actions, added value for that particular location. Beyond the beautiful image, each of these projects has its own story : obviously, the story of the respective location, but also the one about a regeneration process. The restorations in case sometimes take dozens years and involve minimum funds and continuous volunteer work (like in the case of Mincu House - OAR headquarters); other time they involved very popular interior design projects which are however based on a certain perspective on history; art centers, museums, houses, auditoriums; invisible interventions or, on the contrary, bearing the clear mark of a contemporary insertion. So, we knew from the start that we would have to present not only very different works, but also layers of the same work.
Moreover, the exhibition was to be organized in the lobby of the Assembly Hall of Carol I University Central Library of Bucharest: a place full of decorations, strong colors, many materials, different textures. We chose to come up with an exhibition with invisible images. Or rather images that could not be seen from the start. We thought about letting people discover them. Instead of printed panels we chose mobile windows. Each visitor can change the position of the windows so that every time another space and detail will be depicted from the interior of the lobby. The screens display former images of the houses, images of the construction site or of projects by the same authors. Some of the photos associated with these projects, usually those that show the final result are printed. They can be taken out of the box and looked at as closely as you want. We wanted to bring forth some of the rich tactile experience connected to most of the exhibited projects.

Case vechi, design și ceva în plus - expoziție
Re-activarea patrimoniului arhitectural din România
24 septembrie – 17 octombrie 2012, foaierul Aulei Bibliotecii Centrale Universitare „Carol I” din București.
O expoziţie pornind de la o selecţie de 20 de intervenţii contemporane în cadrul unor clădiri de patrimoniu. Nu au fost alese restaurări ale unor monumente cu valoare uriaşă (în care intervenţiile nici nu ar trebui să se vadă), ci operaţiuni care au dat o viaţă nouă unor locuri bătrâne şi fragile. Reparaţii respectuoase, dar şi injecţii de funcţiuni noi, strategii, acţiuni comunitare, valori adăugate pentru un loc. Dincolo de imagini frumoase, fiecare dintre aceste proiecte avea de spus propria poveste: evident, povestea locului respectiv, dar şi a unui proces de regenerare. E vorba uneori despre restaurări întinse pe zeci de ani, cu fonduri minime şi voluntariat continuu (ca în cazul Casei Mincu – sediul OAR); alteori, despre amenajări foarte populare, însă care provin dintr-o anumită privire asupra istoriei; centre de artă, muzee, locuinţe, săli de spectacole; intervenţii invizibile sau, dimpotrivă, marcări clare ale inserţiei contemporane.
Pentru că evenimentul era găzduit de un loc foarte decorat, colorat, cu materiale și texturi diferite, am ales să facem o expoziţie în care imaginile să fie ascunse, pentru ca oamenii să le descopere - în locul panourilor printate fiind instalate nişte ferestre mobile. Fiecare vizitator le putea schimba poziţia, decupând de fiecare dată alt spaţiu şi alt detaliu din interiorul holului. Pe ecrane defilau imagini cu stări anterioare ale caselor, din timpul şantierului sau din proiecte de aceiaşi autori, iar fotografiile printate arătau, de regulă, rezultatul final al acelor proiecte. Acestea puteau fi scoate din cutie şi privite de-aproape – recuperând astfel ceva din experienţa tactilă bogată pe care le stârnesc mai toate proiectele prezentate. Şi am adus mai aproape de toţi scotocitul printre lucruri vechi.
