[EN] Calea Moşilor 2010: an aggressive and grey concrete curtain, specific to the ‘80s, which cuts a historical fabric and divides the city in two: in front of the boulevard a dense and well equipped city, yet ugly and aggressive, and behind, the historical city, hidden and isolated. The project team proposed a series of interventions meant to activate the area behind the curtains of blocks, as spaces of community and public places part of the historical fabric. Those abandoned places after the totalitarian interventions have a huge potential to locate certain genuine public places, articulate the two kinds of city and reintegrate in the collective memory, in the urban structure and the general touristic circuit of an isolated heritage. The project aimed at very small sites, unoccupied and unclaimed by anyone, where various types of interventions were carried out, symbolically, with the participation of the locals, meant to meet their immediate needs but also respect and express the development scenario of that place. The interventions – were four: a passage, a playground, a bench as a staircase, and a close turned into an open living – were meant to test the ideas of the project, stimulate the start of real interventions and support the locals in expressing their opinions and get involved better in the change of their own life space.

[RO] Calea Moşilor 2010: o cortină agresivă şi gri de beton, specifică anilor ’80, care taie un ţesut istoric şi rupe oraşul în două: în faţa bulevardului un oraş dens şi bine echipat, dar urât şi agresiv, iar în spate oraşul istoric, ascuns şi izolat. Echipa proiectului a propus o serie de intervenţii menite să activeze zona din spatele cortinelor de blocuri, ca spaţii ale comunităţii şi locuri publice în cadrul ţesutului istoric. Aceste locuri abandonate în urma operaţiilor totalitare au un potenţial enorm pentru amplasarea unor spaţii publice veritabile, articularea celor două tipuri de oraş şi reintegrarea în memoria colectivă, în structura urbană şi în circuitul turistic general a unui patrimoniu izolat. Proiectul a vizat porţiuni foarte mici de teren, neocupate şi nerevendicate de nimeni, unde-au fost realizate, cu mijloace simbolice, diverse tipuri de intervenţii cu implicarea locuitorilor, care să răspundă nevoilor lor imediate dar şi să respecte şi să exprime scenariul de dezvoltare al locului respectiv. Intervenţiile – în număr de patru: un gang, un loc de joacă, o bancă sub formă de scară şi o fundătură transformată într-un salon în aer liber – au fost menite să testeze ideile din proiect, să impulsioneze demararea unor operaţii concrete şi să-i stimuleze pe locuitori să-şi exprime părerile şi să se implice mai mult în transformarea propriului spaţiu de viaţă.

[EN] The ensemble of public and residual urban spaces, known as the “Revolution Square”, was the theme of several grand, ambitious proposals that just for such reasons are still drafts. For the time being, we have to live with this unfriendly chaos, a non-public space stretching along the most famous axis of the capital.
The Victoria Road, from the Hilton Hotel to Kretzulescu Church has become a delta swarming with parked or driving cars. People have to swim around them in a space lacking any coherence.
Our proposal defines the course of Victoria Road by separating the parking lots in front of the Athenaeum, the “Cina” restaurant, and National Library. This is done through a wooden pavement. It will help the pedestrians to cross the area naturally, and reconnect the Athenaeum Square, the space in front of the Cina, Palace Square and Revolution Square into a coherent ensemble. Last but not least, it re-reads symbolically the history of the axis: Calea Victoriei used to be called “the Mogoşoaia Bridge” until the late 19th century, as it was paved with wooden trunks.
Technically, we propose a simple, modular and quite cheap system, easy to put together and disassemble. A wooden “deck” is hooked between prefabricated concrete kerbs and set on the road.
A prototype (done with the help of Ecolemn) was set in front of the Cărtureşti Bookshop, on Arthur Verona Street to prove the efficiency of the project.

Ansamblul de spaţii publice şi reziduuri urbane numit generic „Piaţa Revoluţiei” a fost subiectul unor propuneri ambiţioase dar care, tocmai din cauza dimensiunilor proiectelor şi a implicaţiilor, au rămas numai pe hârtie. Deocamdată rămâne acelaşi hău neprietenos, un non-spaţiu public pe cea mai prestigioasă axă a Bucureştiului.

Cursul Căii Victoriei, de la Hotelul Hilton şi până în dreptul Bisericii Kretzulescu, se revarsă într-o deltă de maşini. Pietonii se risipesc printre maşinile parcate sau în mişcare, care fac să se piardă coerenţa spaţiului public şi profilul căii propriu-zise.

Propunerea noastră încearcă să delimiteze „cursul” Căii Victoriei de parcările situate în faţa Ateneului, a restaurantului Cina şi a Bibliotecii Naţionale. Instrumentul acestei delimitări îl constituie un trotuar modular din lemn. Acesta va ajuta pietonii să traverseze în mod firesc „zona” şi va (re)articula într-un ansamblu Piaţa Ateneului, spaţiul din faţa restaurantului Cina, Piaţa Palatului şi Piaţa Revoluţiei. Nu în ultimul rând, este vorba şi de o reinterpretare simbolică a „Podului Mogoşoaiei”.

Din punct de vedere tehnic este vorba despre un sistem simplu, ieftin, modular, uşor de montat şi demontat. Un „deck” de lemn prins între borduri prefabricate din beton se aşează peste asfalt.

Un prototip al trotuarului (realizat cu sprijinul Ecolemn) a fost amplasat în faţa librăriei Cărtureşti de pe str. Arthur Verona, pentru a demonstra realismul proiectului.
